This summer, Big T’s BBQ & Smokehouse hosted a Charity Garage Sale to raise money for the Calgary Drop-In Centre (The DI). The sale featured the McMahon restaurant pre-renovation décor items, such as blues-inspired Neil Young, BB King and Elvis posters. Loyal customers gathered at the Deer Ridge location to purchase these funky southern collectables, and helped Big T’s raise $600 dollars for donation. The remaining items were donated to The DI Thrift Store to be sold at a later date.
“We are humbled and inspired by the work that the DI does every day and we have seen first-hand the lives that they touch. We are so proud to support the efforts of the Calgary Drop-In Centre,” said Jean Charbonneau, owner of Big T’s BBQ. The Calgary Drop-In Centre is an organization dedicated to being ‘the voice’ for the marginalized, disenfranchised and homeless population of Calgary. Regardless of the circumstances leading to their current situation, The DI strives to be of service, without judgment, and to fairly and appropriately provide support that assist each individual in their efforts to move forward with their lives.
The DI is an organization close to the hearts of the Big T’s family, who hired the Calgary Drop-In Workshop team to conduct renovations on the North and South locations. The DI Workshop is a rehabilitation program that helps homeless individuals gain job training with the objective of helping them re-enter society. At the end of the Deer Ridge grand opening event, Big T’s donated all of the proceeds to the Workshop.
Big T’s BBQ & Smokehouse is a local business dedicated to Calgary community investment. They are a southern-inspired BBQ restaurant and have three locations throughout the city.
